The Monastery of Tumane is located in the vicinity of Golubac, surrounded by woods on the left bank of the Tumanska River. There are not so many reliable written documents about the year of construction, only few data connect its origin to the 14th century. Local legends name famous Serbian knight Miloš Obilić, Kosovo battle celebrated hero, as the founder of the monastery. The monastery church dedicated to St. Archangel Gabriel was made in the Morava architectural style which flourished in the Serbian Late Middle Ages. It welcomes all visitors with open arms, generously sharing guidance.

DANUBE RIVER TOUR: HISTORY REFLECTION IN WATER

The Golubac Fortress is one of the best preserved medieval fortified cities in Serbia. This fortress is situated at the very entrance of the Đerdap Gorge, also known as the “Iron Gates”, on the section where the Danube River is the widest. After being constructed around the 14th century, it was passed through the hands of the Hungarians, Ottomans, Bulgarians and Austrians before the Serbs secured it once and for all. Since its origin is rather mysterious, there are a number of local legends about the fortress. Erected on high, steep and rocky cliffs, it occupies a strategic position with a breathtaking view.
