Description and Itinerary: The tour starts from your accommodation in Belgrade and takes you to some of the most important landmarks in Western Serbia region. In three days it includes 8 major stops at the Gate of Podrinje viewpoint, Drina river house, Banjska Stena viewpoint, Stopića cave, Sirogojno open air museum, Gostilje waterfall, Šargan Eight historic train ride and Wooden Town/Mećavnik ethno village followed by a sightseeing car ride through picturesque scenery.

Tara mountain (Day 1)

Gate of Podrinje located around 140km from Belgrade is one out of two fantastic viewpoints on the first day of the Tara mountain and the Drina river itinerary. After about two and a half hours of car ride you will have an opportunity to make a break and relax all of your senses enjoying really stunning view of the Drina river valley. Scenic area and an enchanting view from this place is a great way to be introduced to the beauties of Podrinje region and a preview of other interesting sites you’ll get to experience. No matter the season of the year, serene scenes of the Gate of Podrinje always maintain their charm.

Drina river house, is most definitely very unique and attractive tourist site which is an indispensable part of every journey through the green valley. Near the town of Bajina Bašta small wooden, cabin like house stands on the rock in the middle of the Drina river. Since 1968 when the original object was constructed it was destroyed few times by the mighty river. Over the time it became one of the most photographed locations in Serbia, after reaching local popularity, photo of the quirky house was published on the cover of the National Geographic magazine making it famous worldwide.

Banjska Stena viewpoint is the most visited site in the territory of Tara mountain National Park, located 6km from Mitrovac tourist center. Breathtaking view will surely leave you speechless at first as you are trying to absorb all the marvelous beauty of this captivating place. From a mere 1.065m above sea level you get to take in views of the famous Drina canyon, Perucac lake as well as the gentle slopes of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Two lookouts are secured with a wooden fence, there is a bench from which you can enjoy the view or rest from a walk and binoculars at one of the terraces for even sharper view.

Zlatibor mountain (Day 2)

Stopića cave is a true gem of nature which lies on the peaceful slopes of the Zlatibor mountain in Western Serbia region. For years, it attracts thousands of visitors with its impressive arch entrance as an introduction to the interior abundance with cave decorations, unique over floating limestone tubs and subterranean waterfall. Because of their uniqueness, the “siga” tubs are the greatest attraction of the cave, extremely rare features of cave systems in general. Distinctive atmosphere created inside the cave will leave you enchanted and wondering, surely creating fantastic memories to remember.

Sirogojno open air museum Staro Selo is an establishment which perfectly represents the architecture and interior design of buildings, as well as family lifestyle in the mountains of Zlatibor region. It consists of around fifty wooden structures carefully relocated from neighboring villages, residential and commercial buildings, such were owned by cooperative rural families in the second half of 19th and early 20th century. Mokra Gora mountain (Day 3)

Šargan Eight is one of the Europe’s most attractive narrow gauge museum railways, considered a unique construction masterpiece in the world among the narrow-gauge railway lines. From 1925 until 1974 the railway connected Belgrade to Sarajevo and kept the doors of the Mokra Gora mountain open to the world. The track of 760 mm gauge width passes through the most beautiful mountain areas of Mokra Gora with 5 bridges and 22 tunnels. The railway is shaped as the number eight, making bends and going around the entire mountain, slowly ascending towards the peak while overcoming an altitude difference.

Wooden-Town-Mećavnik-serbia-tour

Wooden Town/Mećavnik ethno village for many reasons is a quite special and particular location to visit. Scattered over the slopes of the Mokra Gora mountain stands interesting complex forming small Wooden Town found no place other, nearly every feature of any city is found here in a picturesque surrounding. Famous movie director Emir Kusturica has built the beautiful ethno village that represents his personal mark inspired by the local atmosphere and famous people he admires. That is why in this quirky site you will find streets and squares named after Nikola Tesla, Bruce Lee, Ernesto Che Guevara, Diego Armando Maradona, Federico Fellini and many others.
