Follow the flow of the mighty river and reveal the archaeological remains of one of mankind’s earliest civilizations. Take a step into Danube’s magnificent “Iron Gates”!
Description and Itinerary: The tour starts from your accommodation in Belgrade and takes you to some of the most important historical landmarks along the Danube River. It includes 3 major stops at the Golubac Fortress, the archeological site of Lepenski Vir and Danube cauldrons viewpoints followed by a sightseeing car ride across inspiring landscapes.

The Golubac Fortress is one of the best preserved medieval fortified cities in Serbia. This fortress is situated at the very entrance of the Đerdap Gorge, also known as the “Iron Gates”, on the section where the Danube River is the widest. After being constructed around the 14th century, it was passed through the hands of the Hungarians, Ottomans, Bulgarians and Austrians before the Serbs secured it once and for all. Since its origin is rather mysterious, there are a number of local legends about the fortress. Erected on high, steep and rocky cliffs, it occupies a strategic position with a breathtaking view.

Lepenski Vir is one of the largest and most significant prehistoric archeological sites from the Stone Age in the whole world. The culture of Lepenski Vir dates from around 9,000 years ago and it is a cradle of archaeological discoveries that have changed our knowledge about the early mankind. This first organized urban settlement in Europe featured unique trapezoid-shaped huts and large square where a variety of rituals were conducted. Lepenski Vir is the best known for its perfectly carved stone figures of fish-like human heads.

The Small and Great Cauldrons viewpoints on the Danube, all the way from Germany to the Black Sea, may be the most inspiring place on the entire course. The spectacular view that exudes monumentality includes the famous Decebel monument, the steep cliffs of the forest-covered mountains on the Romanian and Serbian sides of the Djerdap National Park, known as the Iron Gate of the Danube. On this part of our tour, in addition to the view from two different perspectives, during the season, there is the possibility of organizing a speed boat ride where you make experience directly from the angle of the river itself.
